...38|52: Apple Farm...

...
This morning, we took a field trip to a local apple farm. it was hot and humid. we will go back when the weather is much cooler for a tour. today, we were on a mission for some cider and donuts to take to dad's office over lunch.
i like the idea of taking a field trip on friday. the kids had a wonderful time.
gabe...he was so confident when he decided to use the rope swing. he hasn't tried something like this before, but decided he could! taekwondo was wonderful this week. at story time, miss karen was reading a book and asked what birds had dark feathers...gabe was full of detailed answers: golden eagles...bald eagles...barred rocks!!! she looked at me with the last one and then i quickly explained they were our type of hens. she giggled and responded, "i was thinking something simple like a crow." gabe was proud of his answers.

gianna...i am watching her grow into a confident girl and it is truly beautiful. she doesn't always need gabe by her side. he is still her best friend, but she will often decide how things will be played and where she wants to play. she tells me every night, "see you soon.....in the morning." yes, dollface. she always says "mom, you so pretty.." i respond, "you are gorgeous." this week, i used a different word....and she stopped me, "no...i gwowgeous.." so cute.

isaac..oh little man. you make the most adorable car noises. you enjoy pushing them around. you have taken a handful of steps.....sooooo soon. this was taken moments before you took a header on the concrete. you took it in stride. you are in love with animals of any type. i could hardly keep you away from the kittens at the farm. you definitely sound like you call us each "mumum" and "dededed"

...making it rain...

...
we talked about weather this morning after we read our book. we looked at a few books on thunder, lightening, and other weather phenomenons.

we did a little experiment making rain in a glass.
i will say i have never purchased barbasol before...and my kitchen smelled like a grandpa all morning.

we filled a glass with water, topped it with shaving cream, and then the kids took turns adding drops of food coloring until it was saturated, and it looked like rain!!

they really enjoyed it. it was truly fitting as it is pouring all day!

...it looked like spilt milk...

...
only it wasn't spilt milk....

we read a go-along book during last weeks "I am an Artist" theme.
little did i know it would be come a family favorite it.
gabe read his first book! he has read it countless times. it is simple and repetitive, but wonderful.
on friday (due to weather) we spend some time sitting outside and observing the clouds and talking about what they looked like.

animals. objects. food.
they loved it.

we then went in and painted clouds. gabe has always been very artistic. gianna said she was painting a bunny.....and she did amazing! looks like they both take after daddy.

her bunny.

...B is for butterfly...

...
we are continuing to work through the alphabet. this week:
b is for butterfly.
i was unable to find con-tact paper at the store....and they looked at me like i was crazy, so we improvised and used the laminator. it made it a bit more challenging to apply the scraps of tissue paper, but we managed to keep most of them contained!

during isaacs morning nap, we made some butterflies from her birthday party bead favors. she was one happy girl.

...37|52...

...
gabe...almost 5...he is blossoming at homeschool. he has such a thirst for knowledge and i haven't enjoyed them this much ever!! he loves taekwondo. he won an award for best listener this week. i haven't seen a grin quite like that before.

gianna...3...she loves ballet. she sighed at the end of taekwondo and said, "i miss miss elizabeth. i can't wait for my ballet." she loves all of our little projects with school so much. she has been asking to write her name on everything. she loves telling every one she is three.

isaac...almost 1...he is sooooo close to walking. he took his first actual step at the library story time this week. he is working on a few more teeth this week. poor little man. we went to an annual parish meeting last night and there was another baby a few months older than he...he was enamored.

...BFIAR: I am an artist...

...
"And whenever you listen and search and see, you are an artist too."

We did lapbooks, worked on the letter A, self portraits, canvas art, talked about clouds, traced our shadows with chalk, and read quite a few go along-books on art and shapes/colors.

 self portaits:
his detail. he told me he included his teeth, tongue, part of his shirt, his crucifix and....my forehead wrinkles. stinker.

...his first taekwondo session...

...
we decided to have gabe try out taekwodo. he misses the cut off for tball due to his birthday and the soccer schedule was INSANE. i tried hard to find something for him that he would enjoy and grow with. we intend to do swim lessons through the winter, but thought we would their option of three sessions before you commit (typically to two months, twice a week for retention).  there is a martial arts center not far and they offer a tiger program geared toward 4/5/6 year olds.

gabe was a bit apprehensive to try it (as he is most things that he hasn't ever experienced), but in true gabe form he took it in stride and did everything perfectly.
there were three other little boys in his class. he was so incredibly focused, but would occasionally glance up at me and smile. he asked me on the way home if i was proud.
oh.so.proud.
just a small little cell pic as keeping isaac contained was a full time job.
he woke up the next day saying he couldn't wait until the next class!!

...canvas wall art...

...
my pinterest searches for "I am an artist" activities brought up something i have always wanted to try.
crayon canvas art.

we gathered up some broken crayons, taped them to some leftover canvas from another project, and headed outside.
the kids were very excited about their selections. gabe was ready to melt! i don't think they had any idea what would happen when they were melted.
they were jumping up and down with excitement.

all lined up and ready to melt!

we learned quickly that not all scotch tape is superior.....painters tape to the rescue!
